Dili Institute of Technology
(DIT) is a non-government, community-based,
non-profit education provider created to deliver
vocational training and higher education in East
Timor targeting the training needs of youth,
veterans of the resistance and the children of
veterans as well as specific community needs. It is
committed to delivering high quality, post-secondary
vocational training and higher education that will
assist the nation in developing a workforce capable
of meeting the growing demands of the business,
public service and community sectors.

DIT was inaugurated on 10
May 2002 by His Excellency Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao in his
capacity as the then President of the Association of the
Veterans of the Resistance (AVR), a major stakeholder in DIT.
The first intake of students was marked with a public lecture on
"The development of East Timor: challenges ahead" by His
Excellency Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao, President of RDTL, on 22
October 2002. The public lecture on 6 October 2003 to mark the
commencement of the 2003-04 academic year was delivered by His
Excellency Dom Carlos Filipe Ximenes Belo, SDB, Bishop Lit de
Lorium, Nobel Peace Prize 1996 on "Education, Ethics and
Development of East Timor".
Since commencement the Institute has focused on recruiting
qualified, enthusiastic staff, securing and rehabilitating
premises, developing national and international support and
relationships, developing quality, relevant education programs,
enrolling students and establishing a Centre for Applied
Research and Policy Studies.
